The current state of the question of taxonomy of bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus

, : The current state of the question of taxonomy of bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus. Zhurnal Mikrobiologii, Epidemiologii i Immunobiologii ( 9-10): 74-78

A review is presented of literature concerning the taxonomy and identification of lactobacilli. Characteristics of members of the genus Lactobacillus, divided according to Bergey's classification into 3 groups (obligate homofermentative, facultative heterofermentative and obligate heterofermentative), are presented in a table. Changes to this classification which have been proposed in recent years as a result of the application of the techniques of genetics and molecular biology, e.g.
