The effect of pasture maturity on forage intake and milk yield and composition

, : The effect of pasture maturity on forage intake and milk yield and composition. Revista Argentina de Produccion Animal 12(3): 223-234

A total of 8 Argentinian Holstein cows in late lactation yielding an average of 14.8 litres/day, grazed either early spring (EP) or mature (MP) rye grass/white clover pasture. Milk, blood and rumen liquor samples were taken over 2 x 4-week periods. Cows on EP produced more milk (P<=0.05) than cows on MP (daily average 13.8 and 8.8 kg/cow respectively).
