The orchids of peninsular Malaysia and Singapore

, : The orchids of peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. Seidenfaden, G [Author], Wood, J J [Author] The orchids of peninsular Malaysia and Singapore 779p

This handbook is a revision of "Orchids of Malaya", R. E. Holttum, Government Printer, Singapore, 1953. The book describes almost 800 species of orchids, each of which is illustrated by analytical drawings and 196 species are further illustrated by color plates. In addition to the analytical drawings, each species entry contains a text description, the history of the plant's taxonomy, and an account of the habitat and distribution. Taxonomic keys are provided from the family to the species level. The following subfamilies are represented: Apostasioideae, Cypripedioideae, Neottioideae, Orchidoideae, Epidendroideae, and Vandoideae. The work begins with a chapter on the structure of orchids, one on the Malayan orchids and their affinities, and a discussion of orchid classification. A map of the area, references, a glossary, and an index are included.
