A simplified method of calculating the shear strength of a plywood-sheathed shear wall with openings I. Evaluation of the racking load of a shear wall without openings

, : A simplified method of calculating the shear strength of a plywood-sheathed shear wall with openings I. Evaluation of the racking load of a shear wall without openings. Mokuzai Gakkaishi = Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 39(1): 75-79

A simplified method for evaluating racking load of a plywood-sheathed shear wall of North American type wood framing is proposed, based on the following two assumptions: only the component in the direction along the perimeter of a plywood-sheathing is considered for the slip resistance of each nail, whereas the component perpendicular to the perimeter is neglected; and slip resistances of nails at intermediate studs are negligible.
