Azospirillum brasilense: root colonization of weeds and crop plants, inter-root movement and survival in soils and rhizosphere

, : Azospirillum brasilense: root colonization of weeds and crop plants, inter-root movement and survival in soils and rhizosphere. 15th World Congress of Soil Science, Acapulco, Mexico, 10-16, July, 1994 Transactions, Volume 4a: commission III symposia: 13-29

Motile (wild) and non-motile strains of Azospirillum brasilense were studied in respect of root colonization potential for 64 plant species (crops and weeds), inter-root motility (between wheat and soyabean), and their survival in 18 soil types and in the rhizosphere environment. Only the motile strain demonstrated inter-root motility. Non-motile strains remained either at the point of inoculation or at the root tips. Survival in the 18 soils was variable but prolonged in the rhizosphere.
