Chronology of droughts in Southern Africa; the impacts and future management options

, : Chronology of droughts in Southern Africa; the impacts and future management options. SACCAR Newsletter ( 28): 8-17

The paper reviews the chronology of droughts in Southern Africa and some of the major impacts. Botswana, Swaziland and Zimbabwe rainfall records are used to depict some of the most recent rainfall patterns. Drought is viewed as an unavoidable risk to agriculture in these areas; it is important, therefore, that its advent does not result in irreversible damage to land and loss of human and animal life.
