Effect of sowing date on production and quality of seed of Avena sativa

, : Effect of sowing date on production and quality of seed of Avena sativa. Pastos y Forrajes 17(3): 217-224

In field trials in Matanzas, Cuba, A. sativa Cassia Dark, Bentland and an unclassified genotype SC were sown in the 1st fortnight of each month between Sep. and Feb. in rows 50 cm apart. Sowing in Oct. and Nov. respectively gave the highest yields of pure seed in Cassia Dark (2.48 t/ha) and Bentland (3.03 t) whilst sowing in Oct.-Dec. gave yields of 2.98-3.28 t in SC. Sowing in Feb. gave the poorest yields in all cultivars.
