Effects of seed osmoconditioning on emergence characteristics of the summer squash (Cucurbita pepo L.)

, : Effects of seed osmoconditioning on emergence characteristics of the summer squash (Cucurbita pepo L.). Acta Horticulturae (362): 221-228

In a series of field trials, the effect of seed priming in aerated solutions using PEG at -1.5 MPa, KNO3 at 2 or 3% or KNO3 + K2HPO4 (ratio of 1:1) at 2 or 3%, in the dark at 18+or-1 degrees C for 2 or 4 days, on the emergence characteristics of summer squash (cv. Novo Diamant F1) were studied. Surface dried seeds were sown in the field on 12 April 1991, 21 March and 4 May 1992. On average there was a significant improvement in emergence from 72% for the unprimed to 93% for the primed seeds.
