Interrelationships between vegetation, soil, and soil organisms, and the diversity of soil fauna and microorganisms were investigated in addition to a study of the effects of patchy vegetation on different ecological processes during pedogenesis in tundra sites (subarctic). At low alpine heath sites in the subarctic, vegetation and soil mosaic influenced the diversity and activity of soil microorganisms.
