A research programme was initiated in 1982 to increase the diversity of florist crop germplasm in the USA. The new crops programme was expanded in 1984 in cooperation with the Society of American Florists and the American Floral Endowment. The programme aims to research the commercial production and distribution of potential new crops, to collect and provide growers with detailed information, and to serve as a source of information on of new crops.
