This article establishes the current role of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in physical education (PE) in the UK in helping student teachers become sensitised to the influence of gender on teaching and learning, examines how student teachers are taught about gender and its influence on teaching and learning in PE, identifies the constraints on gender within the ITE curriculum and suggests how these constraints might be overcome.
