Air microflora inside Khufu pyramid in the absence and presence of 1500 visitors

, : Air microflora inside Khufu pyramid in the absence and presence of 1500 visitors. Egyptian Journal of Microbiology 27(3): 405-415

The air microflora at 3 sites inside the Khufu pyramid was studied on one day in Sept. 1990 before (08.00 h) and during (12.30 h) the visit of 1500 visitors. Mean total viable bacteria (TVB) counts before the visit were 14 in the Queen's room (Q), 16 in corridor (C) and 12 in the King's room (K), which corresponded to 25, 106 and 104 colonies/plate. Counts increased by 1.8-, 6.6- and 8.7-fold, respectively, during the visit. TVB count outside the pyramid was >300 colonies/plate.
