Association of early seedling and mature plant characters with yield in common beans under aerial moisture stress

, : Association of early seedling and mature plant characters with yield in common beans under aerial moisture stress. Crop Improvement 21(1-2): 24-29

Correlation studies in two successive years showed that yield is independent of early seedling characters while several mature plant traits showed association with yield. On the basis of path analysis it was, however, concluded that positive selection for early seedling characters like cotyledonary leaf length and days to germination and negative selection for leaf area and height of seedlings are important. Both correlation and path analysis unequivocally showed that positive selection for mature plant characters like pods per plant and fresh weight are most suitable for yield improvement in common beans.
