Barbados or Luton? Which way to Paradise; From Sussex to Suva: a reply to David Harrison

, : Barbados or Luton? Which way to Paradise; From Sussex to Suva: a reply to David Harrison. Tourism Management 18(6): 393-398; 399-402

The first paper reviews and comments upon the book, The Language of Tourism: a sociolinguistic perspective (G. M. S. Dann, 1996). In particular, it asks whether the language of tourism is little more than the language of advertising, or whether, rather, it has a specific syntax and grammar of its own. The ways in which tourists read this language are described, and it asks whether the internet is more effective than the brochure in delivering this message.
