Colchitetraploidy induction in turnip (Brassica rapa L.)

, : Colchitetraploidy induction in turnip (Brassica rapa L.). Cruciferae Newsletter ( 18): 20-21

This paper describes the induction of autotetraploidy in turnip (B. campestris var. rapa) Rose Red (2n = 20) by treating fully grown seedlings with 0.2% colchicine solution intermittently for several days using the modified cotton swab method. As a result of primary and secondary screening, 28 out of 261 plants were confirmed to be autotetraploids. Morphological and cytological characteristics of autotetraploids are listed.
