Conformation in genetics, an excellence to be preserved

, : Conformation in genetics, an excellence to be preserved. Producteur de Lait Quebecois 16(6): 18-21

From 1996, results of progeny testing used in the formulation of indexes of genetic potential for Canadian dairy cattle will include only first lactation classifications of progeny for milk production and conformation. Under the previous system, cows which achieved improved results in subsequent lactations could be reclassified. This change will not affect the majority of animals, because, on average, only 15% of classifications carried out in an average year were reclassifications.
