Contribution on the question of resistance of larvae of honey bees with respect to the pathogen of American foulbrood disease Paenibacillus (formerly Bacillus) larvae (White 1906)

, : Contribution on the question of resistance of larvae of honey bees with respect to the pathogen of American foulbrood disease Paenibacillus (formerly Bacillus) larvae (White 1906). Apidologie 27(4): 296-297

Microorganisms isolated from the midguts of honey bee larvae and of adult bees were tested in vitro against P. larvae. The growth of the pathogen was inhibited by 17 strains of 5 Bacillus species, including B. subtilis, B. megaterium, B. pumilis and B. coagulans, 8 Actinomycetales and 4 strains of the genus Brevibacterium. The Bacillus strains were also isolated from pollen stores.
