Effect of the substrate and frequency of irrigation on growth, yield and quality of Gerbera jamesonii Bolus cultivated in pots

, : Effect of the substrate and frequency of irrigation on growth, yield and quality of Gerbera jamesonii Bolus cultivated in pots. Agricoltura Mediterranea 126(3): 297-302

To investigate the performance and suitability of 3 inorganic substrates (perlite, pumice and polystyrene) for soilless culture of gerbera plants, the cultivars Fame, Rosabella, and Sunspot were cultivated in pots, under low (8 times per day) and high (16 times per day) irrigation frequency, from Mar. to Sep. Crop yield and quality as well as gas exchange parameters, were measured. The plants grown in perlite under high irrigation gave the highest number of leaves and the largest leaf area.
