Effect of water stress upon the activities of protective enzyme systems and the structures of membrane systems in maize

, : Effect of water stress upon the activities of protective enzyme systems and the structures of membrane systems in maize. Acta Agriculturae Boreali Sinica 10(2): 43-49

Seedlings of 6 maize varieties or hybrids with different drought reactions were exposed to water stress induced by PEG. Results showed that the activity of SOD declined, rose and then declined in response to water stress. In strongly drought resistant varieties, CAT activity initially rose (or almost did not change) and then declined, while in weakly resistant varieties it declined immediately. POD activity declined in all varieties.
