Twelve of 70 sera (17.1%) from people bitten by Ixodes ticks in northern Switzerland were positive for antibodies against Ehrlichia equi with titres >1:100; whereas none of 50 sera from blood donors from the south of France not exposed to Ixodes ticks were positive.
