Hybrid 'Palora', a new option as a naranjilla (Solanum quitoense) cultivar in Ecuador

, : Hybrid 'Palora', a new option as a naranjilla (Solanum quitoense) cultivar in Ecuador. Proceedings of the Interamerican Society for Tropical Horticulture 38: 194-196

Solanum quitoense cultivation is constrained by problems related to diseases, pests, tree management, adequate yields, fruit quality and size, and orchard long-term viability. The fruit crops programme of INIAP, in the Ecuadorian Amazon, produced an interspecific hybrid between S. sessiliflorum Morona Grande and S. quitoense Baeza Roja. The hybrid has a large fruit size (76 g) and has yields twice those of the parent lines and the Puyo hybrid, the main commercial cultivar.
