Nitrogen fixation potential as affected by B. japonicum strains and soybean cultivars for maximizing soybean productivity

, : Nitrogen fixation potential as affected by B. japonicum strains and soybean cultivars for maximizing soybean productivity. Annals of Agricultural Science Cairo 40(1): 117-128

In field trials in 1993-94 at Sakha Agricultural Research Station, soyabeans Clark, Catler and Crowford were inoculated with 4 strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum. Cultivars showed different responses to inoculation with different strains. At 90 d after sowing weight of nodules was highest with strain 1577 and the cultivars were ranked Crowford > Clark > Catler. Leghaemoglobin content of nodules was highest with a combination of Crowford and inoculation with strain 1577.
