Quassinoids, the bitter principles isolated from Simaroubaceous plants, are C-20 oxygenated compounds. Some quassinoids have shown promising antitumour, antiviral, antimalarial, amoebicidal, antileukaemic and antifeedant properties. About 100 quassinoids have been reported in the literature.
