Rehabilitating fernlands in the dipterocarp rain forests of Sri Lanka by re-initiating secondary succession

, : Rehabilitating fernlands in the dipterocarp rain forests of Sri Lanka by re-initiating secondary succession. TRI News 13(1): 25-29

The exotic fern, Dicranopteris linearis, has colonized forest land abandoned after crop cultivation and its dense cover prevents regeneration of the dipterocarp forest. Three soil disturbance treatments (removal of aboveground vegetation and humus, alone of with root severing or tilling) were tested for restoring secondary vegetation on land occupied by the fern in SW Sri Lanka.
