Relationship between the observed and predicted distribution of offspring for fruit ripening time and fruit weight in Japanese persimmon

, : Relationship between the observed and predicted distribution of offspring for fruit ripening time and fruit weight in Japanese persimmon. Scientia Horticulturae (Amsterdam) 69(3-4): 157-167

The expected distributions of offspring for fruit ripening time (FRT) and fruit weight (FW) in Japanese persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) were calculated using estimates of the mean value of the offspring in a full-sib family (M-f) and within-family variance. The M-f was estimated by the regression of M-f on mid-parental value (MP) for FRT and the multiple regression of M-f on MP and inbreeding coefficient for FW. The within-family variance was obtained from the analysis of variance for the offspring population. In the above analysis, it was assumed that the values of the offspring in a full-sib family normally distribute around the regression or multiple regression line and the within-family variance is homogeneous over families. The observed distributions for 246 offspring from 46 full-sib families, and for 86, 44, 43 and 31 offspring from selected four full-sib families, respectively, were largely similar to those predicted.
