Sorbus caloneura and S. yuana

, : Sorbus caloneura and S. yuana. Garden London 121(1): 22-23

S. caloneura has been in cultivation since its seed was introduced from China early this century. Usually a single- or multi-stemmed tree of 8-12 m, it has a spreading habit with tiered branching and conspicuous buds. The leaves are striking and the flowers, which appear in Apr.-May, form dense corymbs and are white with pink anthers. Compared with S. caloneura, S. yuana has an erect or ascending habit when young, and spreads later.
