The use of a water gradient to study the drought tolerance of perennial grasses

, : The use of a water gradient to study the drought tolerance of perennial grasses. Rangelands in a sustainable biosphere Proceedings of the Fifth International Rangeland Congress, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, 23-28 July, 1995 Volume 1: Contributed presentations: 585

In plot trials in South Africa in a fibreglass tunnel, a water gradient ranging from high to low was created by using a dripper line. Several subtropical grasses were evaluated. Comparing the Cenchrus ciliaris cultivars, T-4464 tended to have the best adaptation to water stress, followed by Gayndah, Molopo and Biloela.
