The use of sylvo-pastoral resources and production systems of the 'Haut Tell' (Tunisia)

, : The use of sylvo-pastoral resources and production systems of the 'Haut Tell' (Tunisia). Agricultural RandD at the crossroads: merging systems research and social actor approaches Selected papers from the International symposium on systems oriented research in agriculture and rural development, Montpellier, France, 21-25 November 1994: 55-67

Rural life in the Haut Tell, an area in the semi-arid zone of Tunisia, is described along with the historical background of the crisis that befell the small farmer population of the region. A typology is presented, discussing the production systems and the way the available agropastoral resources are used. A methodology is constructed to help promote an understanding of the dynamic interaction between population and environment.
