A new concept of mechanical harvest of sour cherries

, : A new concept of mechanical harvest of sour cherries. Journal of Fruit & Ornamental Plant Research 6(3-4): 123-128

The study was carried out from 1995 to 1997 on 4-year-old trees of sour cherry cvs Kelleris 16, Pandy and English Morello. The trees were spaced at 4.0 X 0.5 m, 4.0 X 1.0 m and 4.0 X 1.5 m and specially trained for mechanical harvest. Straddle type Peco Berrymaster harvester with a wide range of driving velocity and shaking frequency adjustment was used. Two strokes of shaker fingers (50, 65 mm) and two frequencies (9, 12 Hz) were applied. The harvesting was conducted at a travel velocity of 1 km/h. The results show that sour cherries can be harvested with a continuously moving harvester with the efficiency over 90% at 65 mm stroke of shaker fingers and 12 Hz shaking frequency when the detachement force of fruit is not higher then 4 N.
