Disseminated toxoplasmosis after liver transplantation: case report and review

, : Disseminated toxoplasmosis after liver transplantation: case report and review. Clinical Infectious Diseases 27(5): 1327-1328

The case is reported of a 53-year-old woman from Finland who developed an infection 2 months after receiving a liver transplant. There was no response to antimicrobial therapy and the patient received a 2nd liver transplant. The infection persisted and bronchoalveolar lavage revealed tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii. Despite broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment, including pyrimethamine and clindamycin therapy, the patient died 26 days after receiving the 2nd liver transplant.
