Medico-ethnobotany of Ladakh

, : Medico-ethnobotany of Ladakh. Annals of Forestry 1998; 5(2): 189-197

The Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, in the Trans-Himalayan zone with semi-arid climatic conditions shows unusual vegetational characteristics. The remoteness and isolation of the region has forced the local inhabitants towards greater dependence on locally available natural resources for their daily needs including health care. This paper deals with 47 plant species of the region used by the local 'vaids', known as 'Amchis', for the treatment of various ailments.
