Performance of free-convective solar driers for cocoa in St. Lucia

, : Performance of free-convective solar driers for cocoa in St. Lucia. Canadian Agricultural Engineering 40(1): 23-28

Four different solar driers were tested under field conditions in St. Lucia to demonstrate their ability to reduce the moisture content of cocoa beans (Theobroma cacao) to a level not requiring subsequent polishing. An indirectly heated solar drier (ISD) coupled with a flat-plate collector and a direct solar drier (DSD) were compared with open air sun drying on perforated steel (OAS) and non-perforated wooden surfaces (OAW).
