Phosphorus uptake of onion as influenced by Glomus fasciculatum, Azotobacter and phosphorus levels

, : Phosphorus uptake of onion as influenced by Glomus fasciculatum, Azotobacter and phosphorus levels. Agricultural Science Digest 18(4): 228-230, Dec

A pot culture experiment on effects of VA-mycorrhiza (Glomus fasciculatum) and Azotobacter chroococcum with different phosphorus levels in the summer onion (cv. N-53) was conducted under glass house conditions during summer, 1994. The results revealed that application of dual inoculation with Glomus fasciculatum+A. chroococcum+50% recommended dose of P recorded highest root length (30.50 cm), height of plant (57.90 cm), fresh weight (161.66 g/5 pl.) girth of bulb (19.20 cm), fresh weight of onion bulb (321.66 gm/5 bulb), root colonization (78.00%) and P uptake (38.60 mg/pl.) followed by G. fasciculatum+Azotobacter+75% recommended dose of P. Therefore, an application of Azotobacter, for efficient utilization of applied and native phosphorus, in combination or alone was found to be beneficial with lower fertilizer dose of phosphorus.
