Storage and germination of seeds and seedling development of Taiwan Nashi-C pear rootstock

, : Storage and germination of seeds and seedling development of Taiwan Nashi-C pear rootstock. Scientia Agricola 54(3): 147-151

Seeds removed from mature Taiwan Nashi-C (Pyrus calleryana) fruits were washed, dried to 12% moisture content, treated with thiram and placed in closed bottles held at 5-10 degrees C for 30 months. One hundred percent germination was obtained during the first 9 months of storage, decreasing to 97, 94, 83 and 76% after 12, 18, 24 and 30 months of storage, respectively. Twelve months after emergence, seedlings had an average height of 141.5 cm and diameter of 11.9 mm.
