The burden on the environment caused by changes in dietary habits and increased food imports

, : The burden on the environment caused by changes in dietary habits and increased food imports. Food Policy Study ( 92): 90-145

In recent years the population of Japan has increased rapidly and the food habits have changed rapidly. The average life span has increased and the health level has improved. Influences from outside including the introduction of convenience foods have led to marked changes in the food preferences and to increased imports to meet the new requirements. The changes have also led to changes in the market and price competition.
