Water balance, water consumption and soil water depletion of agricultural crops on a deep loess soil

, : Water balance, water consumption and soil water depletion of agricultural crops on a deep loess soil. Agribiological Research 50(3): 271-278

Investigations were carried out with winter wheat, spring barley, sugarbeet, potatoes, Italian ryegrass silage maize and Phaseolus vulgaris in large weighable lysimeters in the Thuringian Basin, a region with low precipitation. In the period from 1 January 1983 to 31 December 1996, 93% of total precipitation was consumed by evapotranspiration. Only 4% seeped into depths below 2.3 m.
