Prevalence of shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli in healthy slaughter pigs in Switzerland

, : Prevalence of shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli in healthy slaughter pigs in Switzerland. Veterinary Record 147(26): 747-748

216 faecal samples from slaughter pigs were screened by PCR to detect shiga toxin (Stx)-encoded genes. Pigs were from 9 farms. Methodology is given. The isolates were biochemically confirmed as E. coli. The PCR product of Stx-encoded genes was detected in 42 (19.4%) of the 216 samples.
