Reflective and black mulch increase yield in pumpkins under virus disease pressure

, : Reflective and black mulch increase yield in pumpkins under virus disease pressure. Journal of Economic Entomology 93(3): 828-833

Field experiments were conducted over a 4-year period (1995-98) in Indiana, USA to examine the effects of reflective, black and no mulch on aphid populations, incidence of virus infected pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) Connecticut Field plants and yield of pumpkin. Three different planting dates and their effect on viral infection and yield were also investigated. The use of reflective mulches significantly reduced the number of alates landing in these rows compared with black or no mulch rows.
