The contamination of winter and spring sown cereals with Fusarium - results from random seed samples produced in Bavaria 1987-99

, : The contamination of winter and spring sown cereals with Fusarium - results from random seed samples produced in Bavaria 1987-99. Bodenkultur und Pflanzenbau Schriftenreihe der Bayerischen Landesanstalt fur Bodenkultur und Pflanzenbau 4(3): 21-25

Since seed viability can be damaged by Fusarium, it was useful and necessary to investigate the spectrum of Fusarium and its occurrence in the most important cereal species in Bavaria, Germany. In all cereal species, especially the winter-sown ones, Microdochium nivale (Monographella nivalis) was the most common pathogen. Hybrid rye was much more susceptible than rye populations. The pathogen mostly invaded the kernels and could not be eliminated any longer by surface sterilization.
