A breeding value for resistance to mastitis was calculated in Denmark in 1992. Sources of information for breeding value estimation derive partly from milk recording and partly from veterinary data from the Danish cattle data bank. Data are transmitted from farmers and veterinarians to this data bank. Although heritability value of resistance to mastitis is low (0.04), farmers and artificial insemination stations take this value into account for selection of their bulls.
