Anti-feedants as plant protection against Hylobius pine weevils

, : Anti-feedants as plant protection against Hylobius pine weevils. Vaxtskyddsnotiser 65(3/4): 47-53

The use of antifeedants, as protectants against herbivores, has been described in many plants, particularly in the neem (Azadirachta indica) tree. In conifers, defence is quantitative, based on oleoresin compounds. In small, stressed conifers, like the seedlings in a forestry clear-cut, the quantitative defence is weak. These seedlings have been protected by insecticides like DDT and pyrethroids against feeding by pine weevil H. abietis adults, but their use will be banned.
