Erosion and sedimentation in extreme events

, : Erosion and sedimentation in extreme events. Pages 117-141 1997

Getting your feet wet during a flood is one thing, but cleaning up the mess afterwards is another. A feature of erosion and sedimentation effects of floods is that they are a large part of the mess that is left after floodwaters recede. For the practising hydrologist, key considerations in dealing with the effects of flood-induced sedimentation and erosion are (i) to define the problem, (ii) locate appropriate methods and information to assess effect magnitudes for individual events, and (iii) consider the long-term, cumulative effects of a sequence of extreme events.
