Genetic diversity in commercial tree species: white spruce

, : Genetic diversity in commercial tree species: white spruce. Information Leaflet Laurentian Forestry Center, Canadian Forest Service (LFC-30): 9 pp.

Results are given of a study on the genetic diversity of natural populations of white spruce (Picea glauca) in Quebec, Canada. In addition, a few estimates obtained for other regions of North America (Ontario, Canada and Alaska, USA) are provided for comparison purposes. Finally, the role that biochemical markers (isoenzymes) can play in developing genetic improvement strategies for species like white spruce is discussed.
