Identification and distribution of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) haplotypes in Jamaica

, : Identification and distribution of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) haplotypes in Jamaica. Tropical Agriculture 79(3): 140-149

Collections of whiteflies from Jamaica were identified using morphological characters. Those identified as B. tabaci were further identified to esterase type by diagnostic general esterase patterns using PAGE. More than 216 B. tabaci adults from 22 Jamaican collections were identical to the B type esterase banding patterns identified first for the B biotype from Arizona, USA. Of the plant species sampled in Jamaica, 86% were hosts of the B biotype of B. tabaci.
