Stigma receptivity and growth of the pollen tube in the endemism Silene acutifolia Link ex Rohrb

, : Stigma receptivity and growth of the pollen tube in the endemism Silene acutifolia Link ex Rohrb. Portugaliae Acta Biologica 19(1/4): 97-106

The anthers of hermaphroditic flowers of S. acutifolia begin to release pollen gradually, while the style and stigma are still growing and the stigma papillae are not fully developed. These facts suggest that S. acutifolia shows separation between the male and female functions. In this study, the hypothesis that S. acutifolia, an endemic Silene species, is a strictly proteandrous species.
