Subconjunctival infection with Dirofilaria repens

, : Subconjunctival infection with Dirofilaria repens. Japanese Journal of Infectious Diseases 55(2): 47-48

A 50-year-old man from Adana, southern Turkey presented at the Balcali Hospital due to right eye irritation with itching, swelling and redness. Slit-lamp examination showed a moving Nemathelminthes. A complete nematode was extracted from the subconjunctival space. The worm was later identified as Dirofilaria repens. The worm was 44 mm in length, with a maximum width of 320 micro m. Based on macroscopic and microscopic investigations, the worm proved to be an immature D. repens.
