Bomarea is a genus with approximately 120 species of generally twining or scandent herbs; its area of distribution is extended from the subtropical humid Andes to the Central American Mountains, in a altitudinal range that goes from 1.5 to 4.0 m above sea level. In Venezuela, it is distributed in the Andean Cordillera and in the Cordillera de la Costa.
