Application of biotechnology on the prevention and cure of lactose intolerance

, : Application of biotechnology on the prevention and cure of lactose intolerance. China Dairy Industry 30(1): 44-47

Primary lactase deficiency and lactose intolerance (malabsorption) affect millions of people worldwide. In this paper, the application of biotechnology for the prevention and cure of lactose intolerance is discussed under three headings: (1) lactase production using genetic engineering; (2) low-lactose milk production using bioreactors; and (3) gene therapy.
