Diversification of sugar industry

, : Diversification of sugar industry. The Role of the Arab Region in the World Sugar Economy Proceedings of an international conference held in Luxor, Egypt, 18-21 February 2001: 65-81

This paper highlights the importance or potential importance of sugar as a renewable resource for energy and chemical feedstocks, and the importance of diversification to the viability of the sugar industry. Different wastes generated in sugar factories, such as cane tips and leaves, bagasse, molasses, filter mud, and furnace ashes, are described. A discussion of the industrial uses of each of these byproducts follows or is included.
