There are a number of plant drugs and compound formulations that are claimed to have curative effects in various liver disorders, in the traditional or indigenous systems of medicine (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), in India and other countries. R. nasuta of Acanthaceae is an undershrub widely distributed throughout India. It is extensively used in traditional medicine, to treat liver disorders, skin diseases, peptic ulcers, helminthiasis, scurvy, inflammation, obesity, etc.
